low water, low maintenance, native plants
low water, low maintenance, native plants
A sustainable landscape is one that requires minimal input from you; it should be able to sustain itself. As a landscape architect, I focus on creating a landscape design that is responsible for the local ecosystem and incorporates native plants design to thrive in their environment. By using low water landscape principles and permaculture design, we can significantly reduce maintenance needs. My goal is to help you create the landscape of your dreams in a way that conserves water and demands less upkeep.
My name is Kaaren (car-in) Davis, and I’m proud to have my roots and life in Cache Valley, or Seuhubeogoi (Willow Valley) as the Shoshone nation called it.
The mountains that surround me are my greatest source of inspiration. I graduated from Utah State University with dual majors in Plant Science and Residential Landscape Design and Construction, and I’ve spent many years working in maintenance, installation, and nursery settings. As a landscape architect, I have been designing landscapes professionally for the last 7 years.
My passion lies in plants and the way they connect us to the earth. I strive to create landscape designs that heal the land and nurture both its human and non-human inhabitants. It saddens me how disconnected our culture has become from nature, and I believe I have tools—such as native plants design and permaculture design—to help mend that rift. I focus on creating spaces that welcome people outdoors, invite interaction between species, balance beauty with function, and provide both nourishment and underappreciated resources to homeowners through low water landscape solutions.
If your goal is a well-designed, functional space that welcomes you, I can help you achieve that. Whether you share my level of enthusiasm for plants and the ecosystem or not, that’s perfectly okay! I’ve dedicated my life to this work, so you don’t have to.
Whether you’re looking for a quick brainstorming session or full project oversight from concept to installation, I’m here to support you at any stage of your landscaping journey. I love the unique challenges each property brings and the joy of helping people create beautiful, responsible spaces they truly enjoy being in.

Designing a permaculture system as a landscape architect requires an understanding of the ecosystem and how to optimize the microclimates and natural characteristics of the land for food production and resource management. When you combine this knowledge with training and experience in horticulture, cropping systems, fruit production, arboriculture, silvopasture, and a general obsession with gardening, you are well-equipped for success. I would love to assist you in creating your sustainable permaculture farm or yard, regardless of its scale. The principles of restorative agriculture influence all of my landscape design projects, whether they are explicitly requested or not. These principles align with a sustainable system, which is my ultimate goal for every space I design, including those that feature low water landscape elements and native plants design.
From soil quality and drainage to microclimates and existing plants, each landscape is unique and requires the expertise of a landscape architect who understands how these elements interact. A successful landscape design hinges on recognizing the relationship among all parts of the landscape, whether it's focused on low water landscape principles, native plants design, or permaculture design.
Ultimately, the most important details come from you. It is your space, and the goal is to meet your specific needs there. I am grateful for every opportunity I have to help someone achieve their landscape goals!
